About Claire E. Dyson Ba (Hons), Mbacp (Accred)

I offer a non-judgemental breathing space in which you stop the World and, with no one making demands on you, reflect, pinpoint what’s really troubling you, get to the root cause then choose what, if anything, you want to do about it.I can help individuals with anxiety, low self-esteem, anger, overwhelm, depression, stress and loss.I am trained to work with those who have a troubled relationship with food, especially those seeking freedom from emotional eating i.e. people who tend to turn to food rather than to people for support. This manifests as baffling bouts of over-eating which feel addictive, compulsive even, and which you seem powerless to stop (aka comfort eating, bingeing or binge eating).I work with couples, especially where the same “Groundhog Day” discussion or disagreement keeps coming up, escalating into a row and spoiling an otherwise good relationship. You know, those eye rolling “here we go again” moments. Hurtful destructive cycles you both seem powerless to get out of by yourselves. Here is how a client found working with me:"Claire is a generous empathetic and trustworthy counsellor who gently took me through the process. She was hugely supportive when I got very emotional and made me feel very relaxed with her".I'm an “integrative-relational counsellor” meaning once I've met you, I pick the best from several types of therapy (buzzwords like CBT, person-centred, humanistic, psychodynamic, mindfulness etc) to make a blend tailored to you rather than pushing you through the same old sheep dip regardless of your preferences or needs. Of all the factors determining how well therapy goes our therapeutic relationship accounts for 30% of likely success, and my “relational” degree taught me how to make best use of our relationship.I run a private practice on the edge of Weybridge. Before training as a counsellor I worked for 28 years in the private sector so have insight into the stresses and strains of balancing work and life as well as experience of the ups and downs of life.I'm also part of The Practice UK, a team of mental health professionals dedicated to delivering full therapeutic service in an ethical, non-exploitative way for both our clients and our therapists. I have been part of the teams counselling at two Surrey GP surgeries and The Counselling Partnership, a BACP accredited charity. It is hard to get the measure of each other from a photo and a profile so please call me on 07950 986 085 to discuss if an initial "chemistry test" session might be a helpful next step, thank you.© 2016 Untangle Your Life

  • Understanding Your Eating Limited
    Licenced Practitioner
Understanding Your Eating Limited Oct 2015 - Present
    Weybridge, Surrey
The Understanding your Eating Programme has been developed from research carried out by Julia Buckroyd, Emeritus Professor of Counselling of the University of Hertfordshire and Honorary Fellow of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. The Programme is designed for people who are aware that their overeating is driven by something other than hunger and suspect it may be emotional. The Understanding Your Eating Programme does not tell you what to eat or how much. We think you know that already. Instead it helps you to explore whether you are eating to deal with your feelings. Are you using food to manage your life? If you are, it teaches you a different way of getting through the day.The Programme has two parts:An Introduction designed to help you discover whether you are an “emotional eater” and to teach you how you can start to use other ways of managing your life. The Introduction gives you the basics and consists of 5 sessions of 1 hour (individual) or 1.5 hours (group) running over consecutive weeks so you have the opportunity to first observe yourself then apply what you have learned. I deliver the Introduction 1 to 1 if you prefer 100% confidentiality or in groups of 4 - 6 if you'd rather have the support of others during this process.Nine free standing modules covering subjects which may be of particular relevance to you in a lot more detail than the Introduction. These are optional, it is up to you if you want to do any of these. The modules are: Emotional Eating, Feelings, Motivation and Empowerment for Change, Food monitoring and choice, Activity, Self Nuture, Relationships, Self Esteem and Body Esteem. Please click the link below to find out more.

  • Mwb Business Exchange
    Senior Business Development Manager
Mwb Business Exchange Jul 2006 - Jan 2010
Part of a new team of two tasked by MWB's Business Development Director with getting new business centres at least 85% occupied at opening or as soon as possible after opening. My first assignment was a 250 workstation building in London Bridge. We opened at 100% after I cold called a local Occupier who took 174 workstations in a deal worth £5.6m with the balance sold by a colleague and then those also sold to my Client once my colleague's Client moved out taking the deal up to £8.7m - not a bad result for a cold call! Euston Fitzrovia was next with 2 new Clients found on cold calling worth a total of £186k and £549k then onto Liverpool Street. Had the 7th floor / 75 w/s under offer, I am sitting in front of the CEO for him to sign and then he needs it two weeks earlier than we can make it ready and kicks it into touch. Liverpool Street subsequently filled with two Clients, one placed by Business Development Director (took 3 floors) and the other by MWB Corporate Account manager (took the remaining floor). Bank followed, done as a team effort because by then high occupancy in our City buildings meant the indiginous sales team had little to sell. Between new centre openings (they don't always run one after the other, particularly now the recession has slowed things down) I join either the West End or City Sales teams so I can do deals and earn money for MWB and Dyson plc. Most recent significant deal was 83 workstations, contract value of £250.1k. By the Autumn of 2009 the bottom had fallen out of the serviced office market and, with quality now much better in all competing business centres, MWB’s “edge” was gone and each deal became a race to the bottom on price. With commissions harder to earn and much smaller (they are linked to deal value) and my husband wanting to build a bigger Client base in anticipation of the economy staying tough for a long time, I moved to his coaching company.
  • Gainsborough Business Centres
Regional Sales Manager Responsible For Richmond / Crawley / Slough / Windsor Centres
Gainsborough Business Centres Sep 2005 - Jun 2006
At the time I joined there was no Sales & Marketing Director and I was one of 2 Regional Sales Managers each responsible for the revenue performance of 4 centres and reporting directly into the Chief Executive. Already at 54.73% occupancy after months of poor sales focus with no one properly managing the region, Slough lost two more Clients and the cluster (1,014 workstations) hit 52.37%. I worked as sales manager for Slough and Windsor and managed and coached the sales managers for Richmond and Crawley. Nine months on, occupancy of the cluster rose to 71.4% (an increase of 34.8%) and revenue up by £73.4k pcm (an increase of 42.8%). Two large deals (O2 and 2K Games) would have filled Slough but in the end O2 stayed with their current provider (just moved to a cheaper building) and 2K moved teams around to made space available in an existing property. On 13th June we were informed that Gainsborough was in the hands of Administrators. Regus duly bought most of the business and I found myself all set to be working there again. Since it seemed I was destined to change employers, I checked the Market and received 2 offers, one from MWB. I decided on MWB because their CEO filled me with confidence, they had just revamped the look of centres so had a real differentiation edge, wore black (looks SO sleek and smooth), offered me a new centre opening role in which I estimated I could earn £60 - £100k per new centre and MWB had a better commission scheme than Regus. That said, it was not an easy decision to make, turning my back on the company that had arguably enabled me to become what I am in my working life. I had a "what have I done?" moment about a month in when former colleagues started re-joining Regus and I realised I was missing the chance to work with the old team. Then the deal for London Bridge started and I knew I had made the right choice.
  • Your Space Plc
    Sales Manager Then Sales Director
Your Space Plc Sep 2001 - Jan 2005
Head hunted by colleagues with whom I’d worked at Regus to be Sales & Marketing Manager then Director (not full Board) of this new business. Starting with zero business centres and shares at 2.5p, we grew to five centres over three years. Based in Central London, I handled sales in our first two centres and then as we started building our team moved full time to the induction, coaching and commercial training and management of our the Centre Managers (equivalent to a Regus General Manager). I planned and managed the marketing spend negotiating with various suppliers of design, advertising and merchandising as well as creating our website. The team and I took the company from a £0 turnover to £3.1M. In November 2004, I was advised by a Board Director that a new shareholder felt they could pull the business up to even greater heights if the board followed this new person's clear ideas for the future. With Centre Managers pretty much self-supporting by now my position was "under discussion" and unable to risk unemployment given my financial commitments if I was made redundant (which is what happened), I started job-hunting. I went to work with MITIE Managed Services on 14/02/2006 selling total facilities management contracts. Having been at the “fast food” end of the property market for so long I was miserable so returned to the serviced office sector and the management and sales role I loved this time working closer to home with Gainsborough in Slough and Windsor.
  • Regus
Sales Team Leader (West London, West)
    Regus Oct 2000 - Sep 2001
Asked to open and fill our new Chiswick Park centre, largest in Europe, with 740 workstations and annual revenues of £12m when full. Also to coach, manage and motivate a 4 person sales team with a quarterly sales target of £4.2m and responsibility for 4 other centres bringing in revenue of £13.6m p.a. In Sept ’00 I started Management Development training and working towards an Area Sales Director role. In early ’01 the dotcom crash started to bite and in an “all hands to the pump” re-organisation I was appointed Key Account Manager for 14 centres in the West End focussing on retaining Clients at renewal. In the Summer I got the call from two former Regus colleagues who had left to start up Your Space and wanted me to set up the sales part of the operation. I leapt at the chance to be a founder member in the creation and growth of a new plc.
  • Regus
Sales Team Leader (Slough / Heathrow / Brentford / Maidenhead )
    Regus Dec 1999 - Oct 2000
Promoted to this role coaching, managing and motivating a 4 person sales team to achieve a team sales target increasing each quarter from £3.7M a quarter to £4.1M over four quarters and keep 6 centres, with a combined revenue of £23.5m p.a., full. Over achieved these targets consistently in the 3 quarters I was there (earning £27k in bonuses for myself and each team member in the process) before the call back to London.
  • Regus
    Business Development Manager (Central London)
    Regus Feb 1999 - Dec 1999
Promoted to focus on filling new centres, starting with a 102 office centre in Marble Arch Tower, W1. Target was to be 80% sold within 70 days of opening and exceed revenue targets. Narrowly missed 80% at 70 days when a 17 office deal pulled out at the 11th hour over the Feung Shui of the building (moral of the story, never buy a building with a North facing entrance), but even at the lower occupancy managed to achieve 137% of the revenue target. 1st July, sent to Canary Wharf in a “trouble shooter” role where the team and I pulled the centre up from a 3 month spell at 35% to 88% by end September.
  • Regus

  • Connect Voice Messaging
    Service Support Manager
Connect Voice Messaging May 1995 - Jun 1996
Joined as Help Desk Manager of a 5 person team delivering Connect’s voicemail facilities management. It was a shambles needing radical process re-engineering and automation plus extra manpower, hardware and software tools, training and process documentation. 1 year on, the renamed Service Support was managing twice the number of systems, 15 people and in the final phase of transition into four high performance teams. 3 focused on service delivery and the 4th monitored service delivered Vs SLA and managed the relationship with each Client. Fell out the with the Managing Director about the ongoing level of investment still needed and the direction the business should be taking and for the first and only time in my working life was fired!

As a Clerk, I automated my job and cut the order backlog by 50%. This ability to make things better won me the project manager role – I travelled asking IMPS users across Europe how to make IMPS better then worked with the Milan based software developers who'd make those user suggested improvements happen. Took the more senior IT Support role to manage project teams testing new software upgrades to the linked software applications Digital used to run its business before installing. These tests needed to be sure a change in an application did not mess up any application downstream. The oncoming recession meant there was no money for enhancements so no testing and life started to get a bit quiet. I took a generous redundancy package as the recession hit so used this as an opportunity to buy a house AND find something new to do. (my maiden name was Gates. I was based at DEC Park then Winnersh then back to DEC Park. My badge number begins 18).
