As an asset planner with Porirua City Council's Transport team, I work with the engineers to ensure our public assets are being inspected and maintained regularly. These inspection reports help us build future focused maintenance and renewal programmes, and work to secure the budgets we need to deliver them. Each year we renew some assets that have reached the end of their life, while repairing others that need a bit of work.By staying on top of these programmes we can ensure a great level of service, and value for money for our community.

Since joining this team, we have successfully begun the roll-out of electronic catch and position reporting to commercial fishers. My role has been to communicate this complex programme of work to fishers and other key stakeholders, including working with the Minister’s office. I have also supported a number of consultations. This work has included writing newsletters, web material, promotional campaigns and media releases, plus developing collateral material, such as videos, brochures and guidance.

I have worked in a variety of communications roles at Porirua City Council - starting as a contractor working one day a week for several years while I had young children, while also picking up the odd short-term project.This role expanded to become communications advisor for the new Village Planning Team, which I eventually joined on a permanent part-time basis.And after a few years, this role was absorbed into the Communications team, where I undertook a variety of roles.
