At the MA Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, we believe that each and every student in the Commonwealth, in particular Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous and multiracial students, deserves educators who nurture and cultivate academic excellence, cultural competence, sociopolitical consciousness, and emotional intelligence. As the Director of the Office of Educator Effectiveness, I work with a talented team to disrupt systemic inequities in education and cultivate a more diverse, antiracist educator workforce, from preparation through employment. We do this by promoting state policies and practices that enable educator preparation programs and PK-12 districts to develop, support, and elevate effective teachers and principals along the entire career pathway. As a parent of three young children in MA public schools, I see the opportunities and impact of this mission every day.
