Birth Doula

Claire Kagan, Llc

Boulder, Colorado, United States

I always say that I like to think of a doula as a birth-focused social worker! I bring in my background as a social worker and skills as a doula to provide education around the birth process, empower you to be your own self-advocate, and work with you to make sure that all of your needs are met and your wishes are honored, before, during, and after birth. I’ll create an ambiance that keeps you comfortable during labor with candles, lighting, music, essential oils, massage, breath, meditation, and movement. I’ll stay by your side throughout labor, reminding you how amazing and powerful you are, and helping you work with your body to bring your baby earth side. No matter what kind of birth you envision, I’ll support you every single step of the way, ensuring that you always feel safe, seen, held, and loved.

Jul 2021 - Dec 2023

Yoga Teacher

New York, New York, United States

I began at Y7 as a yoga instructor for their public classes, teaching between 9 and 20 classes per week at their studio locations all around the New York City area. These classes were pitch dark and candlelit, so teachers only used the sound of their voice to instruct students without visuals, and were required to navigate the studio space without being distruptive to students during class. The room was also infrared-heated to about 90 degrees. Teachers are required to create their own playlists in alignment with the brand of the studio: loud, bass-heavy, hip-hop music that develops over the course of the hourlong class. This role also included greeting students, answering questions, and cleaning the studio after class.Later, I began teaching on Y7's online platform. I filmed in a professional film studio with cameramen and film/sound equipment to teach classes of varying lengths and styles that would be uploaded online. Finally, I joined the Teacher Training team as an apprentice. I supported the virtual lectures to make sure all of the online components ran smoothly, served as a mentor for our 200-hour students, graded papers, and taught and co-taught some lectures and classes.
