As an MSc student I attended training labs in different lab techniques, followed by a three-month independent research projectI carried out a research project investigating altered neuronal function in Rett Syndrome, and presented this data at a research forum. This project focused on altered Akt/ERK signalling in response to hydrogen peroxide.

After my 3rd Year in NUIG I successfully obtained a grant from the Wellcome Trust to carry out a summer research project titled ' Negative Energy Balance: The Effect of Altered Metabolites on the Bovine Macrophage Response to LPS'.
