Product Solutions Manager

New Zealand

More4Apps is a software development company that specialises in building products for users to interface data into Oracle ERP systems. In June/July 2018 it was decided to officially bring the functions of Customer Support, Product Design and Product Development together into one team and I became the Product Solutions Manager (3 direct reports; plus 25 indirect reports).I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for a small but quickly growing company, making considerable contributions at strategic, management and operational levels. Being able to put various plans in place and see them come to fruition was very satisfying, and the professional gains I have made working for More4Apps are immeasurable.

Jul 2018 - Jul 2019

Program Manager

More4Apps

In 2015, I returned to More4Apps as the Program Manager. To date, More4Apps had not had any program management or project coordination function. Some key focus areas for me at that stage were to:-Establish a method of prioritising enhancements and projects;-Design and implement an Enhancement Process (from idea, analysis, specification, quote, purchase order, scheduling, development, testing, customer testing, acceptance, thru to invoice);-Plan and coordinate enhancement and project related activities between teams.Within about 10 months it was decided that the software development function should report into myself, and I retained the Program Manager responsibilities. The operational focus over the following year was to bring the functional team (support, design and testing) and development teams together into multiple Product Teams; align products and resources; align processes; and implement selected agile practices. From a management perspective, I was heavily involved in: setting the company strategy, translating that strategy into operational activities and reporting back to the board; implementation of our newly created company values; workforce planning with a focus on resourcing for new products; and implementing training plans.

Business Analyst - Business Transformation

Lic - Livestock Improvement Corporation

Newstead

LIC was undertaking a multi-million dollar transformation of their legacy systems and business processes. Contracted in as a lead business analyst, I had input into a wide variety of projects within this program of work.My primary focus areas were:• Current State Analysis – company-wide investigation of the current state systems and processes, interviewing key stakeholders and completing the necessary documentation. • Product Definition for Herd Testing products – interviewing key stakeholders, decision tracking and writing the product definition for the Herd Testing products. • Future State Design for Herd Testing – running workshops in order to gather requirements, liaising with key stakeholders and completing the future state design.• Service Capacity Planning for Herd Testing - gathering requirements and running a full nationwide pilot for the planning and setting of capacities. Included implementation of capacity check functionality at Sales Order Capture and related Business Intelligence reporting. • Schedule to Dispatch for Herd Testing – running a Proof of Concept (POC) / Feasibility Study with the Soltius and Eagle vendors. The objective of this POC was to ensure that SAP and Esri ArcGIS systems were a good fit for the scheduling requirements.Examples of other projects where I contributed / liaised / advised on a part-time basis include: projects related to Sales Order Management (SAP), Customer Master Data, Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and GIS Foundations.I particularly enjoyed working with Eagle Technologies using the ESRI ArcGIS tools to look at ways that LIC could better store, display and analyze their spatial information (within the Service Capacity Planning, GIS Foundations and Schedule to Dispatch projects).

Feb 2013 - Sep 2015

Senior Business Analyst

Hamilton

For a year I was based at Midlands Health Network. I was a key participant in their Microsoft Partner selection process, however primarily my time at Midlands has been in the implementation the following two products:• Patient Prompt Implementation – rolled out to 92 General Practices in the Waikato and Taranaki regions. This tool was designed by the vendor ‘Best Practice’ and we modified it to meet Midlands Health Network requirements. At the time a clinician sees a patient, the prompt alerts the practitioner to any important events that need to take place e.g. Diabetes Annual Review.• Best Practice Intelligence Reporting Implementation –rolled out to 92 General Practices in the Waikato and Taranaki. This tool extracts information from Patient Management Systems based at general practices into a central data warehouse. Then it provides online reporting back to the practices about how well they are meeting clinical health targets (as defined by Midlands Health Network).

Business Analyst / Product Owner

December 2008 – January 2012Senior Business Analyst / HR Product OwnerMore4Apps is a Hamilton-based software development company, which at the time had about 15 permanent staff. However, they had a large global client base for their Microsoft-based products (with majority of the customers based in The United States of America and Europe). The projects I worked on can be summarized into four main areas:• Human Resources Tools: functional specification, testing and product marketing of two new Microsoft-based tools for loading data into Oracle Human Resources;• New Company Website: design and implementation of a new company website with Zeald;• Trade Shows: Representing the company at four trade shows (three in the United States), which included writing the relevant marketing material/brochures;• Documentation & Testing for all More4Apps Products.I oversaw two Business Analysts, as well as contributing myself to: o Writing test and demonstration scripts for all products; o End-user documentation; o Online videos (using Camtasia); o Testing of products and liaising with the development team.

Dec 2008 - Jan 2012

Senior Business Analyst

As a lead BA on the HR Platform Project, my contribution to this project was the implementation of a global performance management system which was rolled out to all levels of salaried employees within the organisation. I took a great deal of ownership throughout this implementation as it moved from business requirements to an offshore (India-based) development team, through to the production roll-out. A highlight for me was a trip to Manila to train the Human Resources Team in Asia.My responsibilities included:• Creating and tracking against the Project Plan• Writing of requirements / functional specification• Liaising with development (HCL, India), providing clarification as required• Training of the HCL Business Analyst • Creation of the Test Strategy / Test Plan• Overseeing the creation and execution of the Test Scripts• Co-ordination of User Acceptance Testing• Logging / prioritising defects through to resolution• Creation and execution of a Production Deployment Plan• Review of all end-user and training documentation• Delivery of training to HR Managers / Advisors (the business owner and I delivered about half the training sessions each).• Hand-over to the application support team (based in NZ).

Aug 2007 - Oct 2008

Business Analyst

The HRMS Applications team provided technical and functional support for a range of Human Resources Applications. My primary focus was a suite of custom Intranet Applications developed on an Oracle Database (namely e-HR). Projects where I was the Lead Business Analyst included:• e-HR WEBFORMS Implementation Managing the request, creation and approval of online Individual Employment Agreements for salaried and waged employees. WEBFORMS enabled contracts to be standardised, tracked throughout the process, reported on and in addition payroll no longer had to interpret the content of each contract. • 2004 e-HR WEBFORMS Integration with SAPWEBFORMS was originally implemented with Oracle HR as the master data source for employees, positions and organisation structures. With Fonterra moving to SAP HR, the master data source for WEBFORMS needed to change. • e-HR GROW ImplementationThe GROW application was implemented to capture the employee’s competency assessment process and the setting of their development plans (previously done in Microsoft word documents). Including the ability to report on the participation of employees and managers and to review the quality of the assessments and development plans. • e-HR WEBFORMS for additional business unitsThe scope and functionality of WEBFORMS was extended to include contracts for business units with specialised requirements. The implementation for these business units were run as separate small projects and included The New Zealand Dairy Workers Collective Employment Agreements, RD1 Limited, Fonterra Innovation and the Fonterra Customer Support Center. In addition to the projects above I was involved in implementing on-going enhancements (e.g. legislative changes) for the many Human Resources Applications. As well as enhancing and supporting the Annual Remuneration Review Process and writing many ‘business concept’ type documents for future projects.

Mar 2004 - Mar 2007

Service Delivery Manager Financial Applications

The merger of New Zealand’s three major dairy companies and the forming of Fonterra offered new opportunities. I was appointed the Service Delivery Manager for the Financial Applications. I had the task of bringing together the Financial Applications for the NZ Dairy Group, the NZ Dairy Board and the Kiwi Group of Companies. I managed a primarily technical team of up to about 10 employees and contractors. My teams focus was to make the technical changes necessary to integrate (and/or replace) the various financial systems; and to load master data to support the application roll-outs. Meanwhile supporting ‘business as usual’ and tracking against very tight merger project plans. I also needed to maintain close liaison with the business support team, the various finance business units and other application teams.

Mar 2002 - Apr 2003

Systems Analyst, Systems Developer, Trainee Systems Developer (Graduate Position)

I joined the New Zealand Dairy Group of Companies in 1996 as a Graduate in the Information Services department. After a few months I was offered and accepted a Systems Developer role and subsequently Lead Systems Analyst role. During my time at the New Zealand Dairy Group I spent time in both the Financial and Human Resources Applications teams. We supported and enhanced a large number of applications in an integrated Oracle Applications environment (CPG):• Oracle General Ledger • EMPAC (Maintenance of Plant and Assets) • Oracle Fixed Assets • GEMMS (Materials Requirements Planning) • Oracle Purchasing • ADI & ADE• Oracle Payables • Oracle Human Resources • Oracle Receivables • Oracle Training Administration • Oracle Cash Management • Payroll • Oracle Project Accounting • QTAR (Time and Attendance Recording) • Oracle Financial Analyzer • GHARD (Group Hazard and Accident Reporting). In the 6+ years that I was in this department my responsibilities followed the full project and development life cycle including: identifying requirements; functional specification; technical specification; development of forms, reports and interface files; peer-reviewing development; application configuration; end-user support; liaising with business units, technical teams, and vendors (Oracle and Indus); application demonstrations; end-user and technical documentation. Examples of projects where I was a key contributor:• Implementation of Oracle Human Resources 10.7• Implementation of Oracle Training Administration 10.7• Upgrade of the Empac Application to version 8.5• Many Oracle Finance projects including the implementation of new asset registers and revaluing existing registers.• The development and maintenance of many interfaces with Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing and Project Accounting.• Supporting the Infrastructure team in database and operating systems upgrades.
