Participating in the out-of-hours service.The current analytical equipment in the laboratory I work on includes Roche Cobas 8000, Sysmex XN 2000, Werfen ACL TOP and Bio-Rad Banjo Reader.I Have the following• Completed IBMS Registration Portfolio• IBMS accredited Biomedical Sciences Degree• HCPC registrationAs a Biomedical scientists I carry out a range of laboratory and scientific tests to support the diagnosis and treatment of disease.I work within a multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory and using both automated instrumentation and manual techniques to perform routine and specialist investigations on samples in accordance with Path Links Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).I perform routine maintenance on complex, high-value laboratory equipment and 'troubleshoot’ problems that arise during the courses of the working day, rectifying them, or seeking appropriate assistance.The work is highly varied, practical and analytical.Mr role is to innovate and adopt ‘best practice’ so I can deliver excellent care to patients and work within its main values of ‘kindness, courage and respect.’ In 2014 I completed a BSc (hons) degree in biomedical science and achieved a 2:1. During my degree programme I have developed a keen interest and understanding of the following modules; Medical microbiology, haematology, virology, immunology, metabolism & its control, clinical biochemistry, DNA & antibody technology and histopathology, I then went on to complete my Biomedical Scientist HCPC registration portfolio at Kettering General hospital.Prior to entering into graduate study as a mature student, I have gained a long history of work experience across a broad range of areas which include the running of my own business, customer service, business development, recruitment, staff training, data entry and the use of various IT software packages.In the summer of 2013 I secured a six week work placement for the Wellcome trust.During this placement I worked on the transfection of a mammalian cell line with plasmid DNA and siRNA that was designed to knock down a specific gene of interest. Gene and protein expression levels were then analysed through the techniques of Western blotting, gel electrophoresis and gene reporter assays.
