About Cadeem Lalor
I am a communications professional with a proven track record of discipline, organizational skills and time management. While completing my Master's in Communication and New Media, I interned with the Lucinda Literary Agency in New York, where I was able to gain valuable experience in online marketing. My duties included, but were not limited to, researching potential speaking venues, creating promotional materials such as pitch letters, press releases and media kits. I created blog posts for the Lucinda Literary website and regularly updated the site through WordPress. Via Hootsuite, I also created and monitored Facebook and Twitter content for the agency. I have promoted books for clients such as journalist Juliana Barbassa and former Olympian Virginia Gilder. With First Data, I was able to build on my technical skills, while also enhancing my interpersonal skills by corresponding with hundreds of clients via phone and email. I transitioned to a proofreading role with Metroland Media, where I edited a range of weekly newspapers for grammar and spelling. My attention to detail and research skills were also utilized to fact check and email reporters to verify any questionable details or statements in their stories. One of the students I taught while at McMaster University also reached out and offered me a contributor role with Trad Magazine; a magazine he co-founded that explores black identity and African history. I wrote an article for the magazine's October 2020 launch issue, which was the second most viewed on the website, and wrote a short story for the November issue. I continue to be involved with Trad as a content creator of non-fiction articles concerning black identity, and short stories inspired by African mythology. In my role as a Team Editor with The Toronto Star, I successfully pursued equity and brought more inclusive voices into the Star's auto section. Stories I have pitched and edited include ones examining unconscious bias in the auto industry, and the driving experience of neurodiverse individuals. With Wise Publishing, I further developed my project management skills as a member of the editorial and podcast team.I am now seeking a new editing role or a broader communications role.I am also involved in independent creative writing, with a focus on novels and poetry. I have written six books and have four short stories published, and am interested in finding a role in creative writing.
Listed skills include Creative Writing, Time Management, Customer Service, Teamwork, and 46 others.
