Common SenseScary to think I have been working in visual communications for printing and electronic media for over thirty years. I made my first website before many of my fellow designers were born! Yes, I actually used Letraset, I logged on a noisy dialup account and I definitely owned a Macintosh Classic. You can Google those ancient tools to know what I am talking about! In fact, I learnt programming when Apple computers run DOS, Macintosh was a really cool type of designer chair and Windows were glassed holes on the walls... By the way, by "DOS" I don't mean "TWO" in Spanish, but yes I speak the language fluently!I guess in this time, having worked with companies in Ireland and abroad in virtually every area of visual communications, you could say I have gained a little experience in digital design, web development, UX, online strategy & marketing. Perhaps even... I may have worked in a project or two (or three) directing multidisciplinary professionals and managing budgets in the online strategy sector... what's the technical name for that? Project Management? Yes, we did that in the MBA programme, I remember now!But I totally agree, I am a middle aged man! I cannot possible be cool enough to be an expert in online strategy and social media. I have never, in twenty five years creating websites, been technical enough to create a "proper" website and definitely my creative work will never be cutting edge at my age. What do older people know about design, digital communications and consumer behaviour in today's business environment? Noway, I do not even have my own podcast! Sad, I actually know personally most of my connections in LinkedIn and barely use Instagram, what did you say TikTok was? It is dreadful, I only accept connections of people I know and I never publish inspirational articles about 21st century management and I did not used ChatGTP (or GPT) to write this profile (perhaps I should have). I am totally missing the point... nobody will ever want to hire me... I guess my only chance is to put my tiny 30+ years experience in this business to good use as a consultant!However, you could say I am the CEO in my company (easy when you work for yourself). I guess I am also head of catering and maintenance services as I make my own coffee and clean my own bathroom, or am I a barista and a janitorial/hygene specialist?Oh dear, is that good enough for LinkedIn? I can play guitar.... does that count?
