My career has unfolded through a series of inspiring surprises. My degree taught me how to structure questions and how to use an awareness of my own prejudices when making enquiries. I loved my studies, but I was clear that Academia was not my path and I was able to find a way of using my research skills in the real economy as a market researcher. Satisfying as that was, the move to The Cocktail brought new surprises, new lessons and new purpose. Now the questions were concerned with the problems people have and with finding ways to solve them. And always there was a next step, a wider context for solutions and so, in a very organic way, I fell in love with design. Here at The Cocktail, I am impassioned by the sense of agency this gives me. Not only can I help shape solutions for our clients, but I also enjoy the freedom to shape my environment and the culture I am working in. During my first stages of discovery, I looked out at great design companies secretly thinking: "I'd like to work there". Now when I look at them, I think of how I want to build something as impactful, but with our magic contribution. Something from our culture and with our unique capacity for bringing warmth and enjoyment to what we do. Now I am thinking of the next horizon, excited to be building alliances across a broader network, connecting with those people I used to look at from afar and creating new ways to touch the lives of our clients and the people they serve.
