Project Background: - I investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic dysfunction in Huntington's disease. Since these defects occur early in disease pathogenesis, this study could aid the development of early therapeutic interventions that reduce or prevent onset of this devastating disorder.Accomplishments:- Designed, performed and contributed to several collaborative research projects.- Identified funding sources, wrote successful grant proposals and won competitive fellowships.- Liaised frequently with various government and non-profit funding agencies to ensure completion of specific objectives by preparing progress reports. - Communicated effectively with multiple principal investigators and other team members.

Project Background: - I investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying a form of synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus. My research on learning and memory spurred my interest to investigate why there are cognitive impairments in neurological disorders such as Huntington's disease.Accomplishments:- Demonstrated exceptional teamwork and organisational skills during international collaborations. - Developed outstanding oral presentation skills by regularly presenting data at lab meetings, journal clubs and international conferences.- Successful PhD completion required efficient project planning, milestone assessments, strict deadlines and progress reports. - Identified several funding sources, wrote successful applications and received several prestigious research awards and travel grants.

My placement at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was truely inspring for me. Although I performed basic research, I was exposed to other parts of the hospital in which there were sick children with debilitating diseases. This motivated me to pursue a career where I could perform research to help treat unmet medical needs. Project Background:- I helped to characterise a novel signaling protein that is involved in synaptic plasticity and learning and memory.Accomplishments: - Quickly learnt and applied biochemical techniques and contributed to a high-impact publication.- Developed strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills in working efficiently with other lab members and preparing frequent oral and written presentations.

Project Background:- I successfully performed challenging experiments to investigate the kinetics of a novel wheat enzyme.Accomplishments:- Obtained professional biochemical training in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary company.- Excelled in planning experiments, trouble-shooting, presenting and reporting scientific data.
