Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Current● Working as a Substance Misuse Lead to effectively run the service. ● Making autonomous clinical evidence-based decisions, retaining full accountability and using highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.● Receiving patients from the community and making an assessment of their health care needs, based on evidence-based clinical assessment and highly developed nursing knowledge and skills, as well as conducting physical examinations beyond the usual ANP role.● Acting within professional boundaries and being responsible for all patients that come into custody with any history of substance misuse (drugs and alcohol). Conducting initial checks, completing a clinical assessment, deciding treatment, delivering personalised care (including detoxing the patient and stabilising the patient on OST), then evaluating the response to treatment.● Accurately prescribing for clinical conditions and substance misuse appropriately. Where relevant, in accordance with NICE guidelines, local pathways and protocols.● Undertaking medication reviews from SystmOne repeat templates including reading coding entries and identifying individuals warranting MDTs or GP review.● Adapted my care by delivering remote clinics via video and phone.● Managing staff, including Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners. Providing a leadership and consultancy function as required.● Working within the on-call rota, working OOH to provide remote clinical and operational support across all Spectrum secure estates.• Created a robust SMS team, conducted clinics for men regarding all aspects of substance misuse.• Played a pivotal role in the ‘Buvidal’ pilot project, introducing this to Prison establishments across the North-West.• Worked as part of the new Spectrum OOH on-call team, providing support across all spectrum secure estates on all clinical and operational matters.
