My experimental research focused on sugar and fuel production from lignocellulosic biomass via pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, and fermentation to ethanol. This ranged from lab to pilot scales (10^-3 to 10^3 L, usually requiring sterile technique), woody to herbaceous feedstocks, and hydrolysis using industrial enzyme cocktails to individual component enzymes. Monitored resulting sugar and ethanol concentrations via HPLC. Analyzed data and presented research results in industry conferences presentations, internal milestone reports, and journal articles. Reviewed journal articles, SBIR proposals, and L’Oreal-UNESCO WISE Fellowships, and chaired and judged poster sessions. Coached two undergraduate summer interns and six MIT Practice School station teams of masters' students.
