Today environmental and ethical relevance guide my design, research and teaching activities. My career as designer and design teacher encourages me to believe in and to explore the potential of emerging design methodologies for addressing the complexity of today’s environmental challenges and evolving daily life experiences. For the last twelve years I have been involved in design research, focusing on two main themes; 1) design pedagogy: in relation to today’s environmental challenges, user research and to student team-working; 2) longer object lifetimes and materiality relationships in the everyday context.My PhD thesis “Design et relation pérennes avec les objects du quotidien” explores the mechanisms behind lasting relationships with everyday objects. While my thesis is written in French, and is not (yet) translated into English, I’ve presented a number of articles around this subject in the PLATE (Product Lifetimes And The Environment) conferences (2019 & 2021), at Cumulus 2021, and in the E&PDE conferences on Design & Engineering Education (2013, 2015, 2018, 2022). A selection of these can be found in the Publications section of my profile.I have been actively involved in design education in parallel to my work as designer for the last 30 years. This for me is an opportunity to continually question my knowledge and also to learn, whilst hopefully helping future designers to be equipped to address today’s environmental and societal challenges.In my design career, I have worked as in-house designer, in design consultancies, and as independent design consultant in a wide variety of collaborative team formats. As a result, I have extensive practical experience of design projects at multiple scales. While my experience as a designer includes electronic and communication products, household appliances and also accessories and soft goods, in my independent consultancy I have been progressively involved in research applied to design process.
