Joined the Financial Ombudsman Service in February 2020 to bring my skills and experience to the public sector and make a difference to the lives of individuals. After completing my training contract and an international secondment within audit and assurance, I chose to specialise as a Forensic Accountant in 2011 and gained wide-ranging experience including:- completion accounts disputes (both acting for one party and expert determination)- advising on quantum issues in commercial litigation and international arbitration- assisting with expert witness reports for commercial litigation, including professional negligence claims- fraud investigations- accounting irregularity investigationsIn addition to the "day job", I led the Deloitte Birmingham office relationship with our charity partner, Action for Children. In the 2.5 year partnership, we have raised over £175,000 for Action for Children to use in increasing aspirations and employability for some of the most disadvantaged young people in Birmingham. We also provided training for Action for Children's employees, and ran workshop sessions for the young people. During 2016, I completed a twelve month internal secondment to the Deloitte Sale and Purchase Agreement team within Transaction Services, which allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the initiation of transactions, due diligence processes, and the contracts that govern those transactions. I worked closely with lawyers on the financial aspects of the SPA on a wide variety of deals, including drafting specific accounting policies governing the preparation of completion accounts. Prior to moving into forensic accounting, I spent 6 years in auditing and financial reporting advisory, including 2 years in New Zealand. I gained experience across a wide range of industry sectors and sizes of businesses. Outside of work I enjoy the great outdoors, sport, and insightful conversation over a good cup of coffee or a glass of wine!
