Sixth formers typically study 4 A Levels and most progress into Oxbridge / Russell Group of Universities. As Programme Coordinator, I had operational oversight for the Wayneflete Studies Programme. Unique to MCS, this is a personal research and academic essay project offered to lower sixth pupils which deepens their curricular studies and supports their application for and transition into University. Pupils select a topic from a wide range of subject areas. I coordinated lectures, seminars and individual face-to-face tutorials for pupils on this programme, acting as the pivotal communication and organisational link between university tutors and the pupil. Tracking the progress of each pupil on the programme using Excel, I ensured pupils met their obligations, diaries were co-ordinated and meetings were attended by external tutors and pupils. Strict adherence to safeguarding regulations was an integral element of this role, involving accurate completion of all related administration for each pupil. Projects are judged by a panel of university experts, pupils present their projects to the college and winners are awarded prizes by the President of Magdalen College, University of Oxford. I also trained numerous new recruits in the analysis of financial institutions. Analysed financial institutions to determine and measure risk. Assessed and interpreted financial statements and annual reports to build an accurate financial history. I visited many of these institutions in person across Europe and parts of Africa and Asia, to pose deeper questions, develop relationships and build a complete picture of their business - typically meeting with Senior Management teams to achieve this. Approved transactions, determining potential exposure and making sound decisions daily regarding time critical, significant transactions relating to derivatives, financing trades, foreign exchange and leveraged finance. Led changes needed in response to new regulations, overseeing standardisation of counterparty credit reviews and a new approach to the analysis of mutual funds. I joined Morgan Stanley as Credit Analyst Associate, working in several teams predominantly focussing on the analysis of European corporates and banking institutions, risk taken in repo, fixed income swaps, equity options and FX. Progressing to VP level, I oversaw the analysis of credit with banks, brokers, traders and hedged funds and managed the risk taken in fixed income and equities.

My first ‘career’ role on graduating, this post introduced me to banking and investment banking and formed the basis of a successful, progressive career. Here I received valuable training and experience in financial analysis, financial products and corporate finance.
