I am responsible for the strategic direction and delivery of the University of Brighton's employability strategy, which forms part of the overall strategy for Education and Student Experience. I work closely with the senior management team at the University and with academic colleagues, to ensure that our students and graduates are empowered to feel confident in their capacity to have strong employability skills and to make a difference in their lives. I manage the Careers and Employability team at the University, including oversight of the career development team; the placements, internships & volunteering team; the student enterprise and entrepreneurship team; the employer engagement team; and the social mobility and mentoring team.

I carried out the role of Careers Consultant to students in the College of Social Sciences, working with Birmingham Business school, the School of Government and Society, the School of Social Policy and the School of Education. I managed the team for the College at the University of Birmingham working with students, employers and academic colleagues.

I worked in a team of senior careers consultants providing careers information, advice and guidance to students at the university. I worked with students individually and in groups. I had a particular focus on work with students in the Social Sciences Faculty. I also worked with employers and other colleagues to share employment opportunities and to maintain my knowledge of the labour market and current graduate recruitment practices.

Working to support students in Arts, Humanities and Law to develop their career plans and readiness. In this role I was particularly involved in events management - developing and delivering a number of speaker presentations for students to learn about career options.

A temporary contract working within a small team of careers advisers to provide careers information, advice and guidance to all students within the university.

Working with young people in the community to support them into work and study. I worked in three different offices during my time with the organisation demonstrating a flexible approach and integrating well into different team structures.

I began work in Derbyshire as one of four Personal Advisers across the county hired to pilot and develop a new holistic approach to supporting young people in and out of education. I had the opportunity to work with colleagues across support services and to really make a difference to the lives of the young people I worked with. I moved from this role into training and managing a team of 7 Personal Advisers and eventually managed 14 Career and Personal Advisers before leaving the organisation to take a career break and travel in Australia and New Zealand for two years.

I worked in a particularly challenging area of Sheffield in two secondary Schools. A number of pupils I worked with were school refusers and so I worked closely with other professionals and parents to try to find options to develop my clients career plans despite their limited education.

I further developed my skills as a Careers Adviser working in both a state secondary school and an independant school. I also provided support in a local Further Education College and in the community.

This was a temporary role which enabled me to fully complete my training as a Careers Adviser. I worked in two Secondary Schools and also in the community. I particularly enjoyed supporting a young parents group to help the participants seek study or work options.
