Responsible for the proper maintenance of specialist equipment, as well as keeping an inventory, and ensuring surgical equipment is restocked. Many of the surgeons have developed different methods of doing the same operation; which often involves different equipment. Therefore, as Surgical Auxiliaries we develop a detailed and in-depth knowledge of each surgeon’s techniques, by frequently liaising with them to understand their specific requirements. A consistent awareness of each days scheduled operations is fundamental in order to pre-plan for operations and remain one step ahead of the surgeons at all times; ensuring that the appropriate instruments are always sterile and ready for surgery. As Surgical Auxiliaries, we have the hands-on role of aiding vets during surgeries, by remaining on standby to supply any further equipment required.
