Clare is a senior leader with over 25 years experience in the aviation industry and more recently in the charity sector. She has extensive regulatory and public policy experience, at a national and international level, most notably in the Civil Aviation Authority, providing oversight of the commercial spaceflight, Unmanned Aircraft Systems and aviation cyber security programmes and teams.She has extensive practical experience of leading and managing change, including leading the airfield operations wing at RAF Brize Norton during a period of significant operational transformation and infrastructure expansion to prepare for the arrival of C130 aircraft from RAF Lyneham and the introduction of Voyager and A400M into service.She is a member of the Royal College of Defence Studies, which "provides the capstone to the strategic education of those officers of the Armed Forces who have the potential to reach the highest ranks and who must therefore understand and be comfortable working at the strategic level in a cross-government and international environment." She is committed to continued professional development and holds degrees from Swansea University, Cambridge University, the Open University and Kings College London as well as a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.With a keen interest in environmental issues and conservation, on retiring from the RAF as a Group Captain, she enjoyed 2 years as a member of the South West Regional Management Team at the National Trust as Assistant Director South West Landscapes and Infrastructure. Having taken a professional sabbatical to gain experience in political campaigning, local government and to pursue her passions and interests, she returned to the National Trust in April 2024.
