I am currently a junior at the University of Colorado Boulder, and I am projected to graduate in May of 2025. I am on the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) leadership team here at CU as the Peer Mentorship Coordinator. The goal of the mentorship program is to encourage upperclassmen to share advice, experiences, and other forms of guidance with underclassmen. The program is meant to harbor a sense of community and belonging within the biomedical engineering major. I have had to learn important people management and event management skills to ensure the program runs smoothly. I am also expected to work professionally and collaboratively with the other eight members of the BMES leadership team to plan and run events such as career symposiums, career panels, industry talks, etc. I am also an undergraduate researcher with Ferguson Biomechanics and Biomimetics Research Lab at CU. I am tasked with utilizing a microCT machine to scan and image mouse bones from multiple studies connected to bone density. Using the CT machine I will determine specific parameters for each study that is needed for the success of the study. Following scanning I will analyze the bones using Dragonfly software and inspect cortical bone thickness and trabecular bone density. This has pushed me into a more hands on experience within the biomedical engineering field. It has pushed me to be more detail oriented and meticulous in order to ensure the images and results are valid.
