I'm the CEO at 5 Pump Court Chambers with overall responsibility for managing Chambers including finance, recruitment, training, compliance and marketing. It's a big and varied job which suits my skillset well - I like to bring order to chaos, to try new things and to connect with people. I don't shy away from a challenge or from hard work. I definitely see my role as a cheerleader and supporter - I love to collaborate with others and I am a great team player. I have high standards in my work, and I expect other people to have them too, but I prefer to work with people than to dictate from on high!I was previously a litigator and Partner at Anthony Gold Solicitors LLP where I spent a very happy 15 years from trainee to equity partner. I specialised in contentious probate litigation and enjoyed working with families to resolve issues after the death of someone close to them. Death and money don't always bring out the best, but I am good at building relationships and problem solving so I had a successful career. As a working Mum of 3, first generation lawyer and state school educated, I am passionate about improving access to the legal profession for people from underrepresented backgrounds. I have championed flexible working within Chambers and we have a forward looking, progressive approach to flexibility particularly for working parents. I have been involved in recruitment and training of young lawyers for almost 10 years and really enjoy it! I have pioneered 5 Pump Court's involvement with The Sutton Trust and other charities who are working to widen access to the self-employed Bar. Outside work, I am lucky enough to live by the sea and spend a lot of time at the beach - fantastic for my mental health! My husband is a dairy farmer who makes ice cream for a living so I selflessly provide quality control services to his company. I am full of useless facts about ice cream. My favourite flavour is chocolate, but I'll give anything a go once (except banana obviously).
