About Clare O'Brien

About me: I am driven and hard-working. As the oldest of six children, I was given considerable responsibility at a young age. I watched over my younger siblings as we moved throughout the country and transcontinental, even to Uganda, Africa. Through this consistent shift, change became second nature to me. As a result of these constant uncertainties, I quickly learned how to adapt. I often had to motivate myself to find the benefits of each new location, instead of focusing on the struggles from it. I have learned how to persevere in the face of new challenges and unexpected changes that may come my way. By working to acknowledge any hardships that I face, I can recognize the growth that fosters through the struggles and complete my goals with purpose. I value authentic relationships. As the Head Athletic Trainer at my high school, I oversaw athletic events and team practices, serving as a trusted resource for the athletes. I evaluated their injuries, provided essential care, and promoted integration of nutritional practices for them. As an avid listener, I worked to engage with the needs of everyone around me – both on and off the field – and with athletes and professional staff. Through these relationships, I witnessed the commitment they had for their teams and valued the impact that my own team of trainers had. The ability to work within high-stress situations also became pertinent to the persistence of this position, creating a sense of rapport, built through the unmistakable bond with one another. I believe that accountability and passion are key to cultivating community. As an Evergreen Orientation Leader, I have the role of integrating First-Year students into Loyola's campus and Greyhound community. I am passionate about this acclimation and recognize how much of an impact this gesture can have. Recognizing the opportunities that I am given, I know that it is my job to responsibly take hold of that experience. I once read an inspiring quote stating, “The 3 C’s of Life: Choice, Chances, Changes. You must make the choice, to take a chance, if you want anything in life to change.” With every new opportunity that comes my way, I face it head on and decide to ambitiously pursue that path and mindset. Doing this has helped me to maintain a consistent amplification of my passions in life.
