Clare King is the President of Propel LLC, a company dedicated to the development of transforming textile related technologies for the US Military and Fire Services. Clare started her career working in economic modeling, only to shift gears and start Cherry Tree, one of the first technical outdoor clothing companies for children. From there she followed her passion for textiles into the development of technical membranes. She has worked for companies both large and small, including GE, before founding Propel in 2006. Using a wealth of experience in textile materials and processes the Propel team is able to think about a problem and its solution from conceptualization through full scale manufacturing, with attention to both design and business detail. Projects have included two highly significant contracts with the US Navy, one for the Stitchless Engineering of clothing (SBIR Phase II), and the other to investigate Advanced Wireless Textiles for future Navy systems (SBIR Phase II). Currently Clare and team are involved in developing 3D knitwear for the US Navy again under a SBIR Phase II contract. Our prototype knitwear is currently being tested aboard the USS Nimitz. The Industrial Fabrics Foundation awarded their 2020 Innovation Prize to Propel for its Smart Sensing Shirt. Propel is currently delivering to the US Navy a new Damage Control Steam Suit for use on board US Submarines under an SBIR Phase III contract.
