In this role I run object handling sessions for visitors. This requires me to engage both adults and children from all walks of life. My time at The Science and Industry Museum has given me experience on the museum floor interacting with visitors, as well as experience behind the scenes with the museum's collection. This is an extremely hands on role where I am constantly on the move and must always monitor my surroundings and ensure there are no issues. To excel as a volunteer, I stay updated on the exhibitions and objects in the museum and ensure I have the knowledge to answer any visitor questions.

As a volunteer at The Whitworth I have been involved in events taking place within the gallery. I have helped run workshops, quiet mornings, worked in a front of house position, and worked on the setting up and taking down of events.

In this placement I was responsible for evaluating the success of Manchester Museum's Digital Touch Replica in their Golden Mummies exhibition. This required me to carry out observations and survey work in the heart of the museum, collecting feedback from visitors. I then wrote a report with my findings which has given me experience undertaking a formal evaluation. My time at Manchester Museum gave me insight into the running of a large museum and into evaluation work.

I have worked behind a bar in a variety of fast paced venues. My time with HAP further pushed me to be flexible and confident as no two shifts are the same.

As a supervisor I oversaw the work of my team, carried out admin tasks and dealt with any issues from customers and artists both via email and in person. This role developed my leadership and customer service skills, allowing me to become more confident and outgoing. It also gave me invaluable experience behind the scenes in a lively and unpredictable arts festival. No two days were the same and I was regularly moving between different venues, so I would have to deal with each issue or task calmly and professionally. I was often the sole person in charge of my team, meaning I was responsible for the safety and welfare of customers, artists and my team. Finally, my time as a supervisor required me to be confident using a variety of computer programmes and technology such as booking systems and Microsoft Office.

In this role I handled the society’s finances, while also planning events such as a conference and a ball. This position required excellent organisation and flexibility which I was able to successfully bring to the role.

The University of Dundee Museum Collections provide opportunities for exhibitions and shows. My tasks involved cataloguing artworks and the vast collection of artefacts from natural history, science and medicine as well archiving and displaying the artworks throughout the university. In this role I became proficient using EMu Cataloguing System. I often worked alongside the curator, assisting him in his daily tasks, including setting up exhibitions. The University of Dundee has multiple small museums/galleries which gave me a breadth of experience in different types of galleries. During this time, I acquired experience in the operation of museums and art galleries and gained a better understanding of different methods of exhibiting.

As a supervisor I oversaw the work of my team, carried out admin tasks and dealt with any issues from customers and artists via email, in person and over the phone. Assembly Festival is a large company that hosts thousands of events over the course of the Fringe Festival. I was based at their busiest box office in George Square meaning I was constantly being faced with new challenges and always ensured there was a positive outcome for all involved. I was also involved in training my team in both customer service and in Red 61 ticketing system.

This was a high-pressure environment where I spent all day helping customers. I was responsible for both making and serving food as well as constantly taking orders and answering customer’s questions. I was also involved in training and induction of new starts across all roles within the restaurant.
