The internship offer was formulated around Smart Cities (or Smart Grid) developments, and provided me freedom to devise and deliver my own research concept. During the first weeks I formulated a research question on Smart Mobility within the city of Amsterdam. The concept I investigated for the thesis is Mobility as a Service (MaaS), which is the integration of mobile applications for passenger transportation into a single application through which customers can plan, book, access real-time information and pay or utilise a subscription for their journeys. The implementation of MaaS is to a greater extent a matter of behaviour change and a reorganisation of the back offices of mobility providers, and to a lesser extend a technological issue, according to my results. I analysed the level of support for the transition within Tata Steel IJmuiden.
