As a distribution capacity planning intern, I learned about the entire electric utility system from generation to service transformers. My internship focused on the distribution system, from the T/D substation to customers. With this group, I learned about equipment like transformers, fuses, reclosers, sectionalizers, switches, voltage regulators, line capacitors, and circuit breakers. I saw how this equipment and the distribution conductors provide energy to customers, and how capacity planners are responsible for ensuring there is sufficient capacity on circuits to serve customers in a reliable way.My work in the planning group focused on mapping systems accuracy and ensuring customers are mapped correctly in order to provide accurate load studies. This information was also valuable in improving the reliability of the system as customer outages could be accurately reported and more efficiently addressed.I also shadowed many other groups, not only in distribution but also in transmission and generation. Here I learned about protection and controls, renewables, grid engineering, and generation. This gave me a more holistic view of the utility industry.

As a healthcare electrical engineering intern, I collaborated with teams to complete quality projects while meeting deadlines. By multitasking and organizing, I was able to stay on top of multiple projects at once with quick turnarounds.I gained hands-on experience in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and the Microsoft Office suite. This position also allowed me to do field work in multiple hospitals in North Carolina, collecting electrical data and floor plan layouts. This gave me exposure to a variety of electrical equipment including medium and low voltage systems.

I actively took part in the construction and remodeling process by assisting in major home improvement projects and partaking in new construction housing ventures. I was responsible for completing and directing certain portions of each project, including flooring, tile, decking, trim, shelving, and cabinetry. My involvement consisted of working with diverse teams of contractors in various trades to complete quality projects on schedule.

As a part of a diverse team, I trained and executed duties in the election process at my local precinct by successfully registering voters on election day and providing them with information about casting ballots. As a result, I developed organizational and interpersonal skills to maintain proper election standards and serve voters in a positive way.
