I am passionate about building productive teams, fostering flourishing communities, and serving and elevating others, in search of the greater good. Professionally, I am an atmospheric scientist who studies high-impact weather and works to translate knowledge into practice to benefit society. I spent the first thirteen years of my career at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, striving to improve our students' lives through teaching, research, mentoring, and service. I served as the Chair of the Atmospheric Science Program for nine of those thirteen years, through which I led efforts to build and maintain a caring and supportive culture and to improve student recruitment and retention. I engaged a diverse range of stakeholders to learn from their perspectives on our community and work with other elected Village officials and Village staff to advance our community's best interests. We collectively did this by establishing policy, adopting the Village's annual operating budget, and carrying out other duties defined by Wisconsin Statutes and the Village's Ordinances, including biannual reviews of the Village Administrator. Major achievements included:• Reviewing, revising, and approving the 2024 Village budget, totaling approx. $35,000,000.• Initiating and approving a ~$1.5 million per year referendum for enhanced Fire and EMS services to appear on the April 2024 ballot.• Approving comprehensive-plan changes to facilitate two large multifamily developments and rejecting a comprehensive-plan change to facilitate a third large multifamily development.• Facilitating the siting of a Wisconsin Environmental Mesonet station in the Village in spring 2024.By virtue of my position as a Trustee, I also served on the Village's Board of Public Works, where I collaborated with other board members as well as Dept. of Public Works and Water and Wastewater Treatment staff to develop budgets, review and take action on major contracts, and inform decisions.
Postdoctoral Fellow in the Advanced Study Program.• Conducted research on tropical cyclones over land and mesoscale convective systems.• Co-organized the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Lab's "Dynamics Happy Hour" seminar series.• Participated in the 2010 NSF-sponsored PRE-Depression Investigation of Cloud systems in the Tropics (PREDICT) field campaign.
• Categorized and advanced fundamental understanding of the wind structure transformation that occurs as a tropical cyclone becomes a non-tropical midlatitude cyclone.• Identified the physical processes associated with the thermal structure transformation that occurs as a tropical cyclone becomes a non-tropical midlatitude cyclone.
Taught MET 3520, Current Weather Discussion, to approximately ten undergraduate students.
Assisted the State Climatologist and the Florida Climate Center in developing a climate-focused website (SEAgClimate) tailored to southeastern United States agriculture interests.
Used GPS-derived radio occultations from polar-orbiting satellites to identify cloudy atmospheric layers. I received the American Meteorological Society's 2004 Father James B.
