As an intern, I was responsible for conducting background research, scrutinizing rate models, preparing financial statement analyses, and reviewing past testimonies to advise clients engaged in rate-case disputes with or as publicly regulated utilities.I joined Expergy to help manage the workload associated with a steady stream of engagements. I gained meaningful exposure to the business of consulting in the utilities industry. In addition to my responsibilities to clients, I also assisted with internal processes, such as drafting presentations for industry conferences and redeveloping the company's website.I primarily engaged with cases related to water utilities, in addition to working with electric and gas utilities. Most of the engagements I worked on involved presenting expert testimony on behalf of clients involved in utility rate disputes before the Public Utilities Commission of Texas, which has primary jurisdiction over such cases in the State of Texas. In doing so, I became intimately familiar with the regulatory framework for public utilities both in the State of Texas and in other U.S. jurisdictions as well as the intricacies of administrative law procedures governing complex commercial disputes.

Austin, Texas Area

I worked closely with managers and accountants in the Finance department to help accurately recognize more than $1 million of revenue every day. My responsibilities included:Preparing monthly revenue packages, delivery audits, and other reports to assist with the revenue close process.Contributing to quarterly financial reviews, annual audit reports, and long-term projects to meet new revenue standards.Updating revenue recognition schemes, deferred revenue balances, and cash collections data from a dozens of global subsidiaries at various stages of post-merger systems integration.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

Worked under the Vice President of Development and Partnerships, the Membership/Development associate, and the President/CEO of one of DFW's largest non-profit organizations. Responsibilities included researching future sources for fundraising, grant writing to various foundations as part of a three-year capital campaign, and assisting in the maintenance of a large member services/relations database.
