David has more than 40 year’s senior experience in the development and implementation of marketing and communications programmes and in advising organisations in both the private and public sectors.In addition to founding and running Clarke Associates UK Limited, he is also a former Warden (non-executive director) of Birmingham Assay Office. He also recently retired as a non-executive director and former chair of one of the country's most respected social enterprises, Miss Macaroon CIC.David is particularly experienced in the education, health and professional business support sectors. In addition to his core skills in public relations, communications and engagement, he has extensive experience of supporting organisations develop their vision and values using innovative engagement techniques.David started his career on newspapers before working in-house with a major energy utility, and then joining one of the U.K.'s fastest-growing communications consultancies. He established Clarke Associates in 1986. The consultancy is proud that during its life it has advised some of the Midlands’ leading organisations establishing a formidable reputation for its high quality work. David is well known in business circles serving as an elected council member of Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, as a Warden (non-executive director) of Birmingham Assay Office and as a non-executive director of Miss Macaroon CIC. He is also an elected Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and has been recognised by his peers as Midlands PR Professional of the Year. In 2014, he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands.David is a past-chairman of business lobby group Birmingham Forward, a former trustee of Birmingham Settlement and past chairman of the Institute of Directors’ Birmingham Business Breakfast Club. He has been a director of Marketing Birmingham and is a former chairman of The Birmingham Civic Society.In his spare time, he enjoys walking, gardening, sailing and skiing (although has yet to combine any of those simultaneously). He was proud to co-author and create The Rabbit Guide to Birmingham – the definitive guide-book to Britain's greatest city.
