Managed, led, and supported projects as a consultant in the electric power industry. Addressed power plant issues including: • Material evaluations • Failure analysis • Stress analysis • Flaw evaluations • NDE inspections • Buried piping assessment • Root cause analysis

Worked in the Advanced Materials Processing Center at SDSM&T. Learned fracture mechanics, materials science, metallurgical evaluation, and failure analysis. Graduate work focused on the development and evaluation of advanced joining techniques (welding) for automotive and aerospace materials. Planned and managed a variety of research projects, utilized Design of Experiments methods, operated and maintained several Friction Stir Welding and Joining systems, wrote technical papers and reports, and collaborated with academic and industry partners.

Worked primarily at the Ben French Station. Assisted the Plant Engineer and the Plant Manager. Worked with the operations and maintenance department supporting coal and combustion turbine power generation. Planned and supported outage efforts at several BHP facilities and was responsible for engineering and implementing solutions to a variety of O&M related issues including: boiler tube inspections, SO2 scrubber evaluations, coal handling, fly ash management, and liquid fuel storage/containment.
