Before graduating from Northwest Missouri State University with my Bachelors degree, I spent much of my time as a student trying to figure out what exactly it was that I wanted to do with my education and career. I have always grounded myself in my passion for creativity and it remains the driving force in my career aspirations to this day. I prefer to call it “purpose by design.” I ultimately graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Interactive Digital Media. My days in high school as a broadcasting student instilled in me a comfortability around the particular field involving television but I found a seed of interest in digital media. I found myself searching for an opportunity to continue exploring digital media and design even while accepting a career as a federal correctional officer. I worked by night inside the fence, and sharpened my craft during all other hours and eventually landed in a graduate program at Virginia State University where I was able to fall in love with the elements that accompany digital media. While in pursuit of a Master of Arts degree in Media Management I was able to continue creating, begin marketing and promotion, and I was introduced to brand development. I graduated with a desire to immerse myself in that world and haven’t looked back. Despite the fact that my current career path is a blessing and provides a great opportunity to provide for my family, I remain steadfast in hopes of setting foot in the field that lights a fire for me. A field that I embrace during and away from my time as a Vocational Training Instructor teaching introductory graphic design classes inside of a federal prison. I developed and established curriculum just to spend as much time with my craft as possible. I’m confident in my faith, my passion, and my ability and I know that my purpose is through design. And my purpose is definitely by design.
