My role is to oversee, promote, and develop education, outreach, and diversity initiatives for the Kansas NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 Award OIA-1656006: Microbiomes of Aquatic, Plant, and Soil Systems across Kansas (MAPS). A key goal is raising awareness of the program by effectively communicating its activities within Kansas to vital stakeholders and beyond Kansas to other EPSCoR jurisdictions.

For 15 years, my work focused on educating, training and inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. I played a key role in crafting and implementing projects with faculty across campus for dozens of federally funded programs, including a National Science Foundation Research Traineeship program, a Research Experiences for Undergraduates site, two EPSCoR Track-II grants, an NSF initiative for Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL), and 9+ years of Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) sites. I also worked with chemical companies to promote technologies that protect the environment and human health while enriching the education and training for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to help them become industrially savvy leaders in their careers.
