I am a senior research scientist with a PhD in Molecular Biology and 20 years of experience working in a microbiology lab. I have a special interest in bacterial pathogenesis and infectious diseases, as well as other areas of applied biosciences and human health.Over the years, I have worked with many different pathogens such as UPEC, Burkholderiales, Coxiella, and most recently Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and therefore have used many different culturing and genetic techniques.My lab skills include working with DNA (PCR, cloning, sequencing etc), RNA (incl. RNAseq), as well as proteins (expression, purification and blotting etc) and I enjoy learning new techniques and staying up to date with methodologies. I am also fully trained and qualified to work in a biosafety level 3 laboratory and had training in analysis of next-generation sequencing data.On top of my lab work, I have taken on many different responsibilities such as supervision and mentoring of students, writing grant applications and publications, liaising with stakeholders, peer review, public engagement, sustainability, organising events and online workshops, and most recently, leading the research staff association at the School of Life Sciences in Dundee.My publications record can be viewed here: https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5116-4011
