I first became involved in the healthcare industry whilst looking after my grandmother who I realised, really needed my help. This started to make me think about how many other elderly people were out there, who needed help too and who couldn't do simple things - like feed themselves.I put myself through a Healthcare Assistant Course. It was the first ever year in NZ - we were the foundering students! I loved it - I knew straight away I was on the right track and had made the right decision. After this course, I worked for an organisation Ngati Ranginui Iwi Services as home help for the elderly in their homes.I moved into the role at Oceania as I wanted to work more hours within the healthcare sector. This was a steep learning curve for me and where I have taken many experiences and learnings into the role I am in now.I then moved into a recruitment role within Medcall, this was a huge challenge - but I love it and have been here 8 1/2 years. It's the ever changing day to day landscape, the position has allowed me to make it into my own and the team I work with are brilliant (both mine and headoffice).Ultimately, though it is the management team that keep me here - they are awesome to work for; they are supportive, my ideas are always heard and are fun to boot!
