My work at this service as a Crisis Intervention Practitioner involves assisting women and children to safety from violence. In this role working with women over the phone I utilise my skills in de-escalation, risk assessment, and safety planning. I have been able to develop and further grow my gendered analysis of domestic violence.

I completed my first social work placement at this organisation. I participated in phone counselling and crisis intervention work, assistance with court support work, and several training opportunities, such as working with women who are experiencing domestic violence, and working with clients who have substance misuse issues.

In my role as a Youth Worker, I work with young people in the out-of-home care system in a supportive capacity. I utilise positive role-modelling and relationship building with young people who have experienced trauma, as well as strategies in de-escalation.

For my final placement as part of my social work degree, I worked in the Program and Practice Development Unit, within the Children, Youth, and Families division of Churches of Christ Care. As a placement student in this role, I was involved in several research and evaluation projects, such as the second evaluation of the pilot alternative education support program developed for the young people in the organisation's out-of-home care services who have been excluded from mainstream school or have chosen to disengage from this. I was also engaged in a youth support worker role for the young people participating in this program. I was also involved in a literature review project of the current research around domestic violence perpetrator programs, so that this can be used to inform best practice in the development of a Churches of Christ Care domestic violence perpetrator program. While on placement I also participated in many valuable learning and training opportunities, such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, the Sanctuary Model of Trauma-Informed Care, and Youth Mental Health First Aid.
