I am honoured to have served for one of the longest standing Mayors of Vancouver. In my role as a Community Engagement Consultant, I supported the Mayor's Office to connect and engage with community leaders, designing processes to unearth concerns and develop policy solutions. I enjoyed my work designing communications campaigns here with the team, particularly co-writing the Mayor's public apology to Vancouver's Chinese community for historical discrimination, which received a standing ovation. I also played a role in designing the communications strategy for the implementation of temporary modular housing by providing cultural frameworks in high conflict neighbourhoods.

I co-founded hua foundation to support Chinese-Canadian youth to reconnect with their heritage. In my role as the Executive Director, I focused on recruitment, program ideation, branding, community partnerships, fundraising, strategic planning, and communications.

Shark fin products are the leading cause of the globe's dwindling shark populations. As apex predators, sharks play an essential role in our ocean ecosystem. As part of my work at Shark Truth, I designed and led campaigns that empowered families to go “shark fin free”. This included a campaign called "Happy Hearts Love Sharks" where we rewarded wedding couples who went "shark fin free" with a holiday to swim with sharks. My work shifted Chinese culture in Canada and beyond, and forever changed the consumer and restaurant market. My work here also contributed to the successful implementation of multiple conservation policies in the US, Hong Kong, and Canada. To share these learnings, I’ve been a guest speaker and panelist at institutions including Oxford’s Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and New York University. Instead of using shame and blame to change consumer behaviour, I identified positive cultural values to celebrate. This included devising language to celebrate the symbolism behind the serving of shark fin at wedding banquets (e.g. generosity). I also designed a "Sans Fin Soup" contest where I invited renowned chefs from Western and traditional Chinese cuisine to create shark fin soup alternatives. These techniques mimic wisdom found in parenting literature ("Positive Discipline"), psychology ("Unconditional Positive Regard), and best practices in culture change ("McKinsey's Influence Model").
