Medical Doctor (MD) by Pará State University (UEPA, 1992) and doctorate in medicine (PhD) at the University of Tokyo (1998). Founded (2001) the Laboratory of Dermatology and Immunology UEPA / UFPA / Marcello Candia, of which he is coordinator. He is currently a Full Professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences of the Federal University of Pará (ICB, UFPA), master's advisor and doctorate in the programs of Tropical Diseases, and Neuroscience and Cell Biology. He was Clinical Director of the Marcello Candia Reference Unit in Sanitary Dermatology of the State of Pará from 1999 to 2000, and is still working in Marcello Candia patient care, in clinical based projects with UFPA. In 2008 he projected “field” work with leprosy in the Amazon, which began in 2009. During these 10 years, he visited 32 municipalities in the state of Pará, from the capital's islands, to areas with a 24-hour boat trip from Belém, with a team of 8 professionals on average, but sometimes with more than 25 professionals, to work with people diagnosed with leprosy, prevention of disabilities, and in-service training for local professionals, as well to collect biological material for analysis at LDI and in other partner labs. It has built institutional relationships within and outside of UFPA, such as the UFPA Human Genetics and Medical Laboratory, the Department of Dermatology at USP Ribeirão Preto, and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Colorado State University in the United States. He served as deputy coordinator of the CAPES Biological Sciences II committee from 2011 to 2013. He was vice-president of the Brazilian Society of Hansenology (SBH) from 2009 to 2017 and is the current president of SBH since 2018. He was also president of the VII Brazilian Congress of Mycology, 2013. Works with neglected diseases and their dermatological manifestations.
