More than 10 years of experience in research in two main areas: i) the use of light to induce and control photochemical reactions and photophysical processes and ii) the fabrication and characterization of new functional micro/nanomaterials. At the moment I develop new polymeric photofunctional and fluoro/chromogenic films and coatings oriented to save, harvest and convert light energy. The obtained materias are used in ophthalmic applications, optical sensors, smart glasses and invisible ink technologies.I am involved in both industrial and academic projects related to micro/nanoencapsulation of different active materials (including dyes, oils, fragrances) and lead several master and PhD students. Since 2014 I also supervise R&D projects of Futurechromes S. L.(www.futurechromes.com), a research spin-off company dedicated to achieve new fast-responsive photochromic products (e.g., ophthalmic glasses, smart windows, sport wear) based on a recently patented technology. In December 2022 I also became part, as stockholder and CSO, of DistINKt S.L., the new spinoff company of Nanosfun group created in 2022 to commercialize NIR-responsive inks for anticounterfeiting applications.
