Under the CGIAR Genebank Initiative, I support CGIAR engagement in international negotiations for the development of norms related to genetic resources and digital sequence information. I also work to promote compliance of scientists across CGIAR with national and international ABS legislation, and I coordinate projects in African countries (e.g. Togo and Zimbabwe) supporting partners to develop measures to implement, and operate under, the FAO Plant Treaty.At the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), I have worked as the Programme Management Officer responsible for Technical and Scientific Cooperation (TSC) and technology transfer. Previously, I worked for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the Regional Project Specialist for Central and Eastern Europe, Arab & Southern Africa Countries of the UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project. The Global ABS Project promoted the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS. As the Regional Project Specialist, I supported the implementation of operational and technical activities in Albania, Belarus, Botswana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, South Africa and lately Comoros.Before joining UNDP, I served for two years as Legal Officer in the Traditional Knowledge (TK) Division of the WIPO in Geneva, Switzerland. From 2010 to 2015, I was Research Fellow on International Governance of Biodiversity at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations in Paris, as well as Lecturer and Coordinator of the course "Biodiversity Law and Policies" at the Paris School of International Affairs (PSA). In 2014, I was Senior Advisor to the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, and a negotiator for the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.I have also taught Public International Law at Sciences Po (2011-12), and I was the Scientific Coordinator of the Conference “Biodiversity and Traditional Knowledge: How can they be protected?”, hosted by the Bibliothèque national de France in 2013. I have worked, published, and undertaken academic research on intellectual property (IP), international law, biodiversity governance, innovation policies and their respective role in sustainable development. I am trained as an international lawyer and I hold a Degree in Law from the University of Milan and a Master’s Degree in Advanced International Legal Studies from the University of Verona. In January 2010, I was awarded a Ph.D. in Law from Queen Mary, University of London, which focused on "IP & Environmental Protection of Crop Biodiversity under International Law".
