Joining as the leader of the Mechanical engineering and drafting team, I instituted policies to increase resource visibility and accountability of my direct reports’ work, rewrote drafting and engineering standards to make them easier to follow, and ensured that every drawing that left the department was seen by more than one pair of eyes. Under my direction, the team has seen improvements in both quality and productivity.Managing the mechanical engineering and drafting team includes many responsibilities:• Overseeing proper implementation of engineering standards, both external (CE, NEC, NFPA, NEMA, etc) and internal.• Establishing a 2D and 3D library of standard parts and drawings to reduce redundancy and speed up drawing delivery.• Mentoring direct reports in best practices for modern CAD and Vaulting software.• Allocating the resources of the engineering team to new projects, reviewing and approving their work.• Implementing several 3D parametric assembly projects to foster design coherence and build on past experience.• Transitioning the department from 2D drawings to 3D models, increasing drawing quality and reducing manufacturing errors.• Use parametric techniques to shorten lead times beyond what is possible with 2D AutoCAD.• Interviewing new candidates to build a strong and cooperative team.

Worked in the Development Center (R&D) simultaneously managing multiple projects including resources from around the globe. Duties included:* Mechanical Design: * 3D CAD in ProEngineer and Autodesk Inventor * 2D CAD in AutoCAD* Electrical Design: * Single and Three Phase Transformers, medium voltage, cast* Project Management: * Oversaw development of new technologies and new products, from conceptual research to pilot implementation and integration with production environment.

I quickly became the go-to mechanical designer on the team, constantly providing support to new and seasoned designers on my team. Reorganizing and rewriting internal department practices, I was able to knock down many obstacles for engineering from order to delivery.Also included among my design responsibilities were the requirements of an acting CAD manager, including:* Addressing any and all computer/data management/CAD questions and issues* Creating and maintaining drawing standards and templates* Auditing, editing and re-creating design standards* Restructuring numbering scheme to streamline part creation * Particularly useful for new, incoming engineering staff* Overseeing eight mechanical engineers, reviewing drawings and design styles* Developing parametric assembly templates to streamline design process * Parametric assembly templates provided the opportunity to begin with 75% of standard designs finished from the start; a great step towards reducing engineering lead times.* Training designers regarding how to use new and existing software* Regularly distributed how-to's and updates to best practices for my team

Work included writing and correcting stress and vibration analysis test reports for linear hydraulic actuators, reservoirs, ram-air turbine assemblies and their individual components.

Duties included designing cutting tools (drills, end mills, hog mills, face mills, step drills, gun reamers, etc.) and assembly (stroke, torque, alignment, installation, etc.) fixtures for the manufacture and assembly linear actuators, reservoirs, ram-air turbines and their individual components. Also accomplished: establishing a system to organize the necessary tools to be manufactured, in order to streamline the tool design department. After establishing the organization system, the running tool manufacture queue was reduced from greater than 150 to less than 25.

Work included using AutoDesk Inventor to design upgrades to the Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction eXperiment (PHENIX) sector of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) project.
