Head of Pervasive Technologies Research Area. The area studies and develops technologies enabling the paradigm of Internet of Things (IoT), in which every physical object – enriched with communication capabilities – acquires an electronic identity, acts as a source of information, and becomes part of a global network consisting of a large number of heterogeneous nodes, enabling the optimization and management of processes in many areas.

The PSN Research Unit studies innovative technologies enabling the emerging paradigm of the Internet of Things (IoT), with a major focus on trustworthy large-scale autonomous and self-adapting communication networks interconnecting the IoT heterogeneous smart objects.The relevant research activities aim at defining cognitive and opportunistic techniques that self-adapt to the changing conditions w.r.t. e.g., radio connectivity and application level requirements, to ensure flexibility, availability, reliability, robustness and security in communications among IoT objects. Considering the main characteristics of the IoT scenario, the unit also studies solutions for coexistence and interoperability of nodes adopting heterogeneous wireless communication technologies. Other research topics include the manageability of the numerous of IoT objects. All these aspects are studied carefully evaluating scalability.Furthermore, PSN unit is involved in activities related to indoor localization using Wi-Fi, short range wireless communication technologies and UWB. Hybrid approaches are also being studied to support precise outdoor localization combining wireless technologies, GNSS and possibly additional available information.PSN unit competences include network and positioning simulations as well as programming languages and OS (e.g., Contiki, TinyOS) for resource constrained IoT devices.As Head of Research Unit I report to the Head of Research Area and I am responsible for:- Management of technical activities within the unit, also controlling the quality of the scientific results- Competences development- Coordinating the preparation of research project proposals with industrial Partners as well as with Regional, National, and International institutions - Supporting the activities aiming to identify new funding opportunities- Leading or promoting the preparation of scientific publications as well as the participation to networking sessions and conferences.

Since 2005, I have been working as a researcher with the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella - Pervasive Radio Technologies (PeRT) lab on short-range wireless communications technologies (including IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee, 6LowPAN,…) and related applications, also considering network management and e-security aspects.Since 2008, I'm also involved in research activities concerning the adoption of Cognitive Radio paradigm in WSNs.I have been involved in the Technical Programm Committee of the following International Conferences: CRiSIS (2009, 2010 and 2011), IWSCN (2010 and 2011).

In autumn 2004, I joined the Electronics Department of Politecnico di Torino, where I pursued my previous activity. The research has led to the definition of new fast authentication techniques for 802.11x wireless LANs and the development of a brand new network architecture providing mobility support.

In spring 2003, I won an annual research grant from CNIT to study communication networks (mobility and security issues in wireless networks, authentication protocols).
