Simon Sinek once famously said that ‘as a leader, you are not responsible for the operations – but you are responsible for the people in charge of the operations’.I believe this wholeheartedly. My role as Regional CFO with Allianz Trade, and my previous leadership positions, have shown me that the single best way to grow a business and succeed as a leader is to look after your people. Throughout my career, I have always worked to improve the general well-being and engagement of my team, and this has paid dividends both in terms of personal and professional success and in the achievement of company and shareholder goals.I have also always been a tireless advocate for inclusion and diversity. It is my firm belief that these areas should be priorities for everyone – not just from a social equality perspective (though important, of course) but also because of the tangible business benefits that are available when we broaden our teams, backgrounds, and viewpoints. My background is almost entirely within the world of finance. Building on my Master’s degree in Corporate Finance, I have spent almost two decades in a range of positions around Europe and the Middle East – all of which have demanded a deep-level understanding of the risks, opportunities, regulations, and opportunities in the credit sector.
