Drove the digital transformation of a large and world renowned academic medical center, led the technology, analytics, clinical informatics and medical claims coding teams (1800 FTEs, $600M budget). Pivotal role in scaling and expanding the fight against cancer, combining clinical science and technology in novel ways. The COVID-19 pandemic put additional pressure on the transformation timeline, and necessitated rapid innovation in close partnership with clinical and hospital leadership. Key results include:- Kept the hospital running when 30% of overall staff was sent home with 48 hours notice in March 2020 due to COVID-19, kept teams motivated and engaged in highly stressful and dangerous conditions.- Digitalized and optimized clinical operations, grew the share of virtual visits from 2% to 60% in only two months and reduced the overall clinical and physical resource use per visit by one third.- Extended patient reach to achieve earlier disease detection and patient acquisition (leading to better treatment results and accelerated academic research), plus more holistic patient engagement post treatment. All without overtaxing scarce clinical and building infrastructure.- Launched a new patient portal fulfilling the promise of expanded longitudinal cancer care- Monetized and sold the institutions first 2 commercialized digital technology assets.As the senior most technology executive, I also provided enhanced leadership, oversight and governance for the partnership with Paige.AI, a Venture Capital (VC) backed company that originated as a spin out from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Paige.AI has raised more than $200M in total, with the latest funding round being Series C, and has a couple of hundred million dollars in revenue. The company uses AI to improve and optimize imaging based pathology and the identification of biomarkers, resulting in material diagnostic cost savings for hospitals and health systems.

Key results include:- Created a real-time 360 view of a health consumer across all points of contact and business lines, implemented a new relationship based operating model and platform for the member services team.- Modernized medical claims across the commercial, medicare and medicaid business membership populations, achieving 12% optimization.- Post-acquisition rapidly integrated the technology, data and architecture teams across the legacy CVS Health and Aetna organizations, creating a new shared culture of excellence. Implemented effective at-scale (agile) planning and execution processes for technology investments.- Implemented a modern API centric integration platform, reducing the time and cost of integration by more than 50% (saving around $100M per year).- Unified analytical data and insights across all lines of business.- Successfully completed a handful of (smaller) M&A transactions (a mix of acquisitions and divestitures), on time and on budget.

Working directly with the client C-suite executives, business and technology.- Established and led API and cloud integration technical community and talent education.During my time at IBM, I was recognized as a Notable Lab Advocate, the highest IBM honor for a client facing technical executive. This new C-suite role was created to establish and lead an architecture practice across the enterprise, and to drive strategic transformation at a time where eCommerce and consumer self service were rapidly becoming mainstream in the Financial industry.Key results include:- Established and led the consumer centric digital transformation across Danske Bank Group.- Drove the technology and product integration of 7 major acquisitions, delivering on time and on budget.- Powered a more than 100% business growth, while maintaining operating margins.- Led the strategic partnership with Maersk Group around datacenter infrastructure, hosting and IT operations. Resulting in the spin out of a joint technology management company.- From the ground up created an architecture practice, hired and developed architect talent, making architecture an integral part of software engineering and product development.- Danske Bank's leader driving the creation of country level shared digital signature and payment infrastructure (which was later spun out as a separate jointly owned payment company).- Established (the first) laerning and talent development programs for an organization with 2000+ developers.Prior to my Chief Architect role (beginning 2020), I held multiple different senior leadership positions at Danske Bank, including 18 months as the (inaugural) Chief Information Security Officer.
