The COVID-19 pandemic put additional pressure on the transformation timeline, and necessitated rapid innovation in close partnership with clinical and hospital leadership. Key results include:- Kept the hospital running when 30% of overall staff was sent home with 48 hours notice in March 2020 due to COVID-19, kept teams motivated and engaged in highly stressful and dangerous conditions.- Digitalized and optimized clinical operations, grew the share of virtual visits from 2% to 60% in only two months and reduced the overall clinical and physical resource use per visit by one third.- Extended patient reach to achieve earlier disease detection and patient acquisition (leading to better treatment results and accelerated academic research), plus more holistic patient engagement post treatment. All without overtaxing scarce clinical and building infrastructure.- Launched a new patient portal fulfilling the promise of expanded longitudinal cancer care- Monetized and sold the institutions first 2 commercialized digital technology assets.As the senior most technology executive, I also provided enhanced leadership, oversight and governance for the partnership with Paige.AI, a Venture Capital (VC) backed company that originated as a spin out from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Paige.AI has raised more than $200M in total, with the latest funding round being Series C, and has a couple of hundred million dollars in revenue. The company uses AI to improve and optimize imaging based pathology and the identification of biomarkers, resulting in material diagnostic cost savings for hospitals and health systems.
