Nutraceutical is a leading manufacturer and distributor of branded nutritional supplements and natural personal care products. It holds the #1 unit market share position in the health food specialty channel (HFS), where its roots and beginnings are, but its online, international, and FDM sales now make up substantially more of its business than HFS. This once-public company was taken private in August of 2017, at which time I assumed the CEO role and was tasked with transforming the business and achieving certain financial targets over a 4-5 year period (the plan). We achieved those targets in less than two years and completed a successful transaction in which we sold part of the business for a very nice return to our investors at HGGC. In February of 2020 I stepped down as CEO and returned to HGGC as an operating partner on the bench ready for my next value creation opportunity within the HGGC family.

First became involved as the American Capital Operating Principal responsible for turning around the company, which was aquired from Lennox as a distressed asset. Subsequently, a year later after the company was profitable and doing well, joined the company as a member of the executive management team and resigned from the board. Service Experts was sold to Enercare, Inc. in 2016, at which point Buyouts Magazine named this the 2016 Turnaround Deal of the Year with more than 18 times the original investment returned to the investors.

ASAP Industries provides machined components and repair services primarily to the oil and gas industry. ASAP is one of the largest such providers in the gulf region of the United States.

American Capital is a large, diversified, global asset manager with over $130 billion of assets under management, including direct equity and debt investments in middle market companies. In my role as a Principal in the Operations Group, I am responsible for the performance of a number of companies owned by American Capital. I work closely with the management team to maximize the performance of the companies and the return on investment. This is a very hands-on operating role, as opposed to a traditional financial oversight role. At times I may lead projects, restructure companies, turn around distressed assets, lead acquisitions, and often function as CEO or COO as needed.
