I developed and implemented processes to quickly identify, evaluate, and execute growth concepts resulting in executable business plans to enable Momentive to capture significant value. The growth strategy is based upon a three distinct types of business development; New Business Space Development (NBSD), Open Innovation, and Market Extensions. NBSD projects pull the organization into new spaces that have synergy to existing business by way of partnerships and acquisitions. Open Innovation is used to develop products wherein Momentive is lacking the internal capabilities. All projects include identifying market extensions, which are new sales opportunities that can be executed by Momentive businesses using existing products (existing products, new or emerging markets). Using a three tiered approach provides a variable risk profile. NBSD programs deliver significant value in the short term and require significant cash (higher risk). Open innovation delivers significant value over a longer term (2-6 years) through the development of new technology platforms and requires less cash (medium risk). Market extensions deliver immediate value and require little to no cash (low risk). Successful execution requires a well-capitalized group and a systematic approach, with clear goals, deliverables, and accountability.

Developed and implemented Open Innovation processes to identify, assess, and evaluate technologies from multiple industries to transform the performance of pesticides to give high value, proprietary products. These processes included mapping to systematically evaluate novel technologies and is transferable to other industries.Negotiated all agreements and started projects with more than twenty-five companies, government labs, and universities representing the following industries: agriculture, pharmaceuticals, paints/coatings, polymers, personal care, and flavors/fragrances. Developed a particularly strong expertise and rolodex in the areas of nano technology and controlled release technology.

Strategic Project Execution (2007 to 2008)Provided overall leadership for a large acquisition project represented by various groups (including corporate development, engineering, corporate strategy, corporate communication, legal, human resources, and strategic marketing). Business Manager / Business Development Manager, Custom Manufacturing Business Organization (2005-2007)Implemented changes to improve the financial performance of Eastman's Custom Manufacturing Business Unit that included rationalization of underperforming business, implementation of manufacturing changes to improve quality and reduce batch loss, developng closer relationships with key customers to obtain additional high value business, developing processes to evaluate new custom manufacturing opportunities and tracking project development, and implementation of changes to production scheduling to improve capacity utilization. Technology Manager, Eastman Technology Licensing and Alliances (2004-2005)Executed license agreements in North America, Europe, and Asia to secure product sales of Eastman copolyesters. Licensed various technologies that I had been an inventor (medical devices and polyolefin catalyst). Principle Research Chemist, Specialty Plastics Research Division (2002-2004)Managed a group to create commercially relevant technology derived from Eastman’s dye heritage. Managed simultaneous research projects with as many as twenty external partners. Obtained approximately 40 U.S. Patents while in technical roles at Eastman. Senior Research Chemist, Specialty Plastics Research Division (2001-2002)Lead the creation, development, and commercialization of polyester additives to improve the weatherability of Eastman polyesters. Successfully managed a group of chemist, engineers, and technicians. Advanced Research Chemist, Eastman Research Division (1999-2001)Provided synthetic support for a polyolefin catalyst discovery program.
