Over the years, I’ve launched and sold several businesses, each brought valuable insights and growth. One core lesson for me is that business ventures must come from a passion I truly enjoy. My latest endeavor combines my love for the outdoors with my enthusiasm for business.About 18 months ago, a chance meeting with Darryl Thomson—an expert in bushcraft and gold panning—led us to collaborate on teaching survival skills. We began with a Firecraft course at the BC Wildlife Federation’s “Be an Outdoor Woman” weekend. The response was incredible, and we were invited back in 2024. Inspired by our experiences, Darryl and I developed a fire striker, the QUICK-FIRE, to enhance our training.The QUICK-FIRE was a hit at the 2024 Vancouver Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show, where we sold hundreds. But I noticed a gap: younger kids struggled to use it effectively. So, with a little extra time in the summer, we developed the QUICK-FIRE SURVIVE, designed for easier use by kids without sacrificing reliability, with the added benefit of compartments in the handle for storing survival items.
