About Cheryl Manning

I work to bridge the gap between Earth science research and public understanding, creating learning opportunities that empower people to make informed decisions about the ever-changing environment and natural resources. I work with Earth science researchers to design, implement, and evaluate broader impacts of their research. I support organizations and agencies in creating learning opportunities for stakeholders and communities. I review creative data-rich curriculum materials that engage learners in place-based solutions.I have over 25 years of experience as a science teacher, curriculum designer, instructional coach, and educational consultant, working with various schools, organizations, and agencies to promote Earth systems science education. I am a National Board Certified Teacher and an AAAS Fellow, recognized for my leadership and vision in geoscience education. I have also served as a Department of Energy Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow at NSF-GEO, where I supported broader impacts of geoscience research. I am committed to helping learners of all ages and backgrounds appreciate the fundamental Earth processes that shape our planet and our lives. It has been an honor to pursue my Ph.D. in Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Northern Illinois University, where I have researched how the geoscience community resources can support Earth science educators and young people to affect sustainable change.
