Sustainable Marine Energy (SME) is a marine engineering company delivering commercially viable solutions to the tidal industry. SME is developing a turnkey tidal energy system, called PLAT­O. PLAT­O isa moored, buoyant platform that is positioned mid­water column. SME has also developed anchoring and mooring solutions for energetic marine environments.Responsibilities include:● Stakeholder communications including the SME Board and shareholders. Production of monthly board report, quarterly investors report and reviewing other business documents, such as business plans and information memorandums. Attend board meetings to take minutes.● Grant applications for research and prototype projects for funds managed by Innovate UK.● Marketing and PR including drafting and dissemination of press releases, maintain website and social media (Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter), produce marketing collateral, organise attendance at exhibitions and conferences.● Manage marketing budget.● Consenting and licencing applications and requirements from appropriate statutory bodies for deployment of tidal energy devices.● Organise internal and external stakeholder events, such as team off­site days, investor open daysand internal workshops.

I worked to support the documentation required for the successful DNV audit of the Transas Admiralty Data Service. I also project managed a contract with a third party to maintain and develop the Admiralty Leisure products.VAR Team (Dec 2008 – Mar 2009)I worked alongside an under - performing team in the provision of digital infrastructure and product delivery. Having observed the process end to end, I identified key areas for improvement to deliver the team’s objective of world class performance. This role relied upon strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, in an environment where small changes were difficult to make, and an ability to quickly understand new technical concepts.

Working directly for the Operations Director and with regular Board contact, I was responsible for developing the business plan for Operations which spanned strategy to delivery. Using the Lean Sigma toolkit, I was also involved in driving process inefficiencies across Operations, which delivered an in­-year saving of c£600K. In addition I developed an outsourcing strategy for Board approval, which involved developing a blended onshore / offshore solution for data processing to complement core activities, improve capacity and enable a variable cost base.

This work was based on data supplied by external contractors and necessitated strong relationship management skills. I also provided meteorological and oceanographic expertise to other sections within the UKHO. The role demanded a high level of scientific knowledge and a precise approach.
