About Clément Kuzniewycz
At 16 years old I believed that to have a positive impact: ‘You have to work for a charity’.So I dedicated 5 years of my life as a full time school mentor in an underprivileged neighbourhood. I saw tens of children avoid dropping out of school on their last chance, develop a genuine interest in education, and ultimately start believing in their own future.This experience grew in me a deep sense of compassion, pedagogy and patience.But I started doubting, thinking it might not be the best way for me to have the most positive impact. I was still young and needed new challenges. I thought that a set of technical skills could open new doors, new ways of helping others and understand the world.In 2019 I joined 42, an innovative school that offers a master's degree in software engineering. This school works based on practice, doing project, putting emphasis on autonomy and creativity. I acquired multiple skills by using Git daily for 4 years, programming in C, C++, Typescript, assembly, writing HTML, CSS, using Docker, Kubernetes, NodeJs, React, and doing project with multiple schoolmates.I just did an internship within Datadog for 6 months as a software engineer.I was part of a dynamic and experienced team working an a cloud security product, with direct impact on the customer experience.I’ve had the chance to face various challenges like the huge codebase, collaboration between teams, delivering high-quality code and solving real-world problems. But most of all I found that planning, managing, and high level conversation and questions are what I like best.There is nothing more exiting for me than thinking about strategy, objectives and how to accomplish things as a team.I discovered 80000hours.com during my internship, and I’m now convinced I can find a way to help people and be good at it.But I need more experience on the technical side, and I want to learn more about the critical problems the world is facing, or will be.This is my final year of study.I’m looking for a software engineering position where I can learn management and strategy.I’m striving for a start of my career.I’m thriving in a challenging environment, when planning and trying to solve ambiguous problems.

I was blindly emailing resumes, tailoring cover letters, and knowing nothing about software engineering in a company when I first heard about Datadog.I got an email from the recruiting staff, and everything happened so quickly after that. The hiring team were fantastic.The learning experience lasted six months.I was given the opportunity to assist an experienced team. With a lot of obstacles, things were moving faster than most of the company's products. Working on a growing product, constant communication with the backend team, synchronization with design and product management, teamwork and cross team work, a huge code base, continuous integration and delivery, a complex stack, and direct impact on the customer experience are all examples.I improved my abilities to write polished, extendable and maintainable code, tests, and documentation.The chance to review the product, design, code, make suggestions, and be heard was the highlight for me. I had a lot of questions and received a lot of answers and support.Furthermore, I've loved the emphasize on being inclusive, building strong multicultural work relationships and speaking English by default.I did thank my manager and his manager, my mentor, and everyone of the engineers I asked questions for being patient, sharing their knowledge, and being a part of my incredible first internship.And I thank them once more, but I need to move forward to my next opportunity.These inspiring engineers were detail-oriented, creative, engaged, and able to convey their thoughts and actions clearly.That is how I aspire to be.
