This program put me through a year long process of learning leadership theory and practice through a multistage learning experience focused around myself, then our cohort, and then expanding to a larger audience including students. This process allowed me to learn the basics and then expand on that learning through the application of these leadership theories to my peers and my group of nine first-year engineering majors through a full-semester of mentorship. I had to be accepted into this program after an application, multiple recommendations, and the passing a precursor class to learn further about myself and who I am as an individual. Through my experience with my first-year group I was able to expand my learning and experience in leadership as a whole as well as challenge myself with uncomfortable/confrontational situations and allowed me to effectively eliminate the heat of conflict and reach a result that the team as a whole was happy with and able to bond over.

This employment was terminated due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on independent research funding for both my employment and resources needed to conduct the research. Throughout my time in this position myself and Dr. Joshi, my advisor focused on IoT applications to better behavioral-based scenarios within learning. The longest extent of my research was spent on a Smart Design Studio where we utilized light and sound to manipulate an individuals emotional state and fit it to the needs of the step in the design process they were taking part in. This was done using a Raspberry Pi as the core control system for both the auditory and visual manipulation of the room connected to an API to Phillips Hue bulbs to control them from the Pi. This research was discontinued due to the large scale need of structuring a controlled room to carry out different studies within. We then pivoted to applications of IoT to improve the experience of ADHD/ADD students without chemical manipulation such as prescription medications. The main idea we began to zero in on was a Pomodoro Technique module that would track the amount of time the user spent studying and within break periods so that they could easily see their progress by using the method. It was going to feature lighting timers instead of digital to give a very quick visual signature of how much time they had remaining within each sprint. As stated earlier, COVID-19 ended the research before the module could be functionally prototyped.

I managed one of the company's largest pools where I became familiar with the basic pool pump systems and how they work as well as maintenance. Being the manager I also had to handle a multitude of chemicals knowing all of the hazards that come with them. My job was also to handle daily tasks as well as many leader level ones such as handling customers needs and following through with requests. On a daily basis I was tasked with leading a staff of 2-4 lower level employees.
